What is the charging pile?

Nowadays, global charging pile ownership surged, while high-power fast-charging network leads the growth. The charging piles’ function is like that of tankers in gas stations. Charging piles can be fixed on the ground or wall and installed in public buildings, residential parking lots or public electric car charging stations. They can be used to charge various types of electric cars according to different voltage levels. The input end of the charging piles is directly connected with the AC power grid, and the output end is equipped with charging plugs for charging electric cars.

 

Generally, there are two charging modes, including regular charging and quick charging. People can swipe a specific charging card on the human-computer interaction interface provided by the charging pile to carry out corresponding operations such as charging mode, charging time, cost data printing, etc. The display screen of charging pile can display charging amount, cost, charging time and other data.

 

 

What are the types of charging piles?

At present, there are two common charging piles on the market, one is DC charging pile and the other is AC charging pile.


DC charging piles: DC charging piles are fixedly installed in some public places outside electric vehicles, such as residential quarters, residential parking lots, commercial areas, service areas, outdoor parking lots, electric vehicle charging stations and other places. It is a charging device that provides DC power for non-vehicle electric vehicle batteries by connecting to the public grid. Because the DC charging pile can directly charge the battery of an electric vehicle, it is generally powered by a three-phase four-wire system or a three-phase three-wire system, and the output voltage and current can be adjusted in a large range, so it can realize the fast charging of electric vehicles, and the DC charging pile is also therefore It is called fast charge. Due to the large output power of DC charging piles, the general specifications are 30kW, 60kW, 80kW, 120kW, 150kW, 180kW, etc.

 

AC charging piles: AC charging piles are also fixedly installed in some public places outside electric vehicles, and provide controllable one-way AC power or three-phase AC power supply devices for the on-board chargers of electric vehicles. It should be noted that the AC charging pile itself does not have the charging function, it only provides power output, and can charge the battery of the electric vehicle by connecting to the on-board charger of the electric vehicle. Since the power of electric vehicle on-board chargers is generally relatively small, AC charging piles cannot achieve fast charging, and AC charging piles are therefore called slow charging. The output power of AC charging piles will not be very large, generally 3.5kW, 7kW, 15kW, etc.

 

Difference: There are two differences between DC charging pile and AC charging pile. First, when charging, the DC charging pile can directly charge the battery of the electric vehicle, so it does not need an on-board charger, and the AC charging pile cannot directly charge the battery of the electric vehicle, so an on-board charger is required. The second is the difference in charging time. The charging speed of the DC charging pile is faster. Generally, it only takes tens of minutes to two or three hours to fully charge the electric vehicle battery, while the time for the AC charging pile to fully charge the electric vehicle battery It’s much longer, it usually takes about eight hours.
